Summer Skincare

Summer days are full of simmering heat and blazing sunrays, but the summer months are one of the most trying times to keep your skin protected, soft and glowing.

The recent raging temperatures and excessive humidity can steal your natural radiance, resulting in skin that looks dry, oily, and blemished. The change of seasons can aggravate skin dryness and increase the activity of your sebaceous glands that produce oil. This can cause your pores to look enlarged and cause breakouts, caused by excess oil, dirt, and bacteria.

Here are some savvy techniques and tips to simplify your summer skincare routine!

Rethink makeup

Heat suppresses the ability of your skin to breathe; meaning hot temperatures and thick foundation can quickly clog your pores and create a happy home for bacteria to thrive. We suggest a light, powdered foundation – always remembering to use a facial serum underneath makeup to keep your skin hydrated!

Don’t forget to cleanse!!!

Cleansing should be part of your daily routing and we recommend oil cleansing twice daily – morning and evening. Cleansing before sleep is essential as our skin cells regenerate at twice the normal rate. Wearing makeup to bed is simply horrendous for our skin – as our pores need to breathe at night.

Stay hydrated

This should go without saying but staying hydrated is the key to protecting our skin’s natural glow. Water is an essential ingredient in healthy skin tissue as it keeps skin soft, supple and radiant whilst flushing out toxins through sweat and urination. Without proper hydration, our skin struggles and shows signs of dryness, looking dull and lacklustre.

Regular exfoliation

We recommend exfoliating weekly if you have inflamed or irritated skin. However, exfoliation is important for brighter, smoother skin no matter the season. For sensitive skin or skin prone to breakouts a gentle exfoliator should be used. Our bodies shed skin cells rapidly and without exfoliating, dead cells can clog our pores and congest our skin.
